2026 Wedding Trends Melbourne Couples Are Loving

Every year the weddings I photograph tell me where things are heading, and 2026 has a clear and lovely mood: quieter, warmer, and far more personal. If you are planning a Melbourne wedding this year, here is what couples are leaning into.

Lived-in, not over-styled. The most beautiful rooms I am walking into right now feel inviting rather than perfect. Think candlelight, draped fabric, antique tableware and florals that look gathered rather than arranged. It is romance with the edges left soft.

Bold, earthy colour. White-on-white is making room for emerald, burnt orange and deep, vibrant blues, often with a nostalgic nod to the 70s and 90s. It photographs richly and feels full of life.

Guest experience over everything. Couples are designing days that feel like an experience for the people they love: long shared tables, creative food stations, signature drinks and small sensory details. Some are stretching the celebration across a whole weekend.

Documentary photography and cinematic film. This is the trend closest to my heart. Couples want their day told honestly, in candid frames and emotional films, with clean, true-to-colour editing rather than heavy filters.

Film and Super 8 nostalgia. Grainy, timeless film is everywhere again, often alongside digital. It is the look that makes a gallery feel like a memory.

A content creator on the team. More couples are adding someone to capture behind-the-scenes, phone-style clips for Reels and Stories, so the day is shareable the moment it happens.

The thread running through all of it is intention. Couples want a day that feels like them, captured the way it really felt.
