Quat Quatta Wedding Photographer & Videographer

Quat Quatta is a classic, romantic Melbourne wedding close to the city. A heritage mansion dating back to 1889, an elegant Edwardian facade, lofty hedged gardens, a bronze fountain, a festoon-lit courtyard and a chandeliered ballroom. It is timeless and refined, and it gives me the kind of backdrops that make both the photography and the film feel effortlessly elegant.

I am Jesse Mather, a Melbourne wedding photographer and videographer, and I cover both the photo and the film for your day myself. At a venue with as many beautiful corners as Quat Quatta, having one calm person capturing both the stills and the film is a real advantage. Nothing gets missed, the day stays relaxed, and your gallery and your film feel like they belong to the same story.

Why I love shooting at Quat Quatta

Quat Quatta sits in Ripponlea, about twenty minutes south-east of the city, which makes it easy for guests while still feeling like a private world of its own. It is a boutique heritage venue, and the appeal is in the details: the 1889 mansion, the manicured formal gardens, the tall green hedges, the marble verandah and that gorgeous festoon-lit courtyard. Every one of those is a ready-made backdrop, and after shooting here I know exactly which ones sing at which time of day.

What I love most is the range packed into one property. You have grand heritage architecture, formal garden geometry, and softer, intimate courtyard corners, all within a few steps of each other. That variety means your gallery has real depth without you ever needing to leave the venue or feel rushed.

Gardens, courtyard and the ballroom

You can hold your ceremony outdoors in the formal gardens with the Edwardian facade behind you, which is the signature Quat Quatta look, or in the courtyard among the hedging and festoon lights, or indoors in the ballroom if the weather turns. Each has its own mood, and I am always happy to talk through which suits your date and the light on the day.

The chandeliered ballroom is where the reception comes alive, and it films beautifully once the sun is down and the lights take over. For portraits, both the front and back of the property deliver. The manicured arches, the green hedges, the bronze fountain and the marble verandah give me classic, elegant frames, and the courtyard’s festoon lighting gives us something warm and romantic for the evening.

Elegant, but never stiff

Quat Quatta is undeniably elegant, but my job is to make sure your photos never feel stuffy or posed. The thing couples thank me for most is that I make being in front of the camera feel easy, even when you are convinced you will be hopeless at it.

I do not march you through a rigid shot list or freeze you into formal poses. I give you small, natural prompts, let you laugh and lean into each other, and quietly capture it as it happens. So even against all that grand heritage architecture, the photos and the film look warm and human, like the two of you rather than a formal portrait sitting. If you are camera-shy, that gentle approach makes all the difference.

Photo and film, and a touch of analogue

Because I shoot both, your Quat Quatta wedding comes back as one seamless story. The film holds the movement and sound, your vows in the gardens, the speeches, the first dance under the chandeliers, and the photographs give you the still, timeless frames to print and keep. You get how the day looked and how it felt, together, with nothing missed.

My film and analogue add-ons suit a heritage venue like this one beautifully. A roll of Super 8 in the formal gardens, a few frames of 35mm by the fountain, or instant prints for your guests in the courtyard. That grainy, nostalgic texture sits perfectly against nineteenth century architecture and gives your gallery something with real character.

A few practical notes

Quat Quatta scales well, seating a good range of guests and holding a larger crowd for a cocktail-style celebration, so it works for both mid-sized and larger weddings. The indoor ballroom means the day is fully covered if it rains, and the marble verandah and courtyard give us sheltered, elegant spots for portraits even in poor weather, so a wet forecast is never something to stress about. As always, I build a wet-weather plan into our timeline so your day flows smoothly whatever happens.

Being so close to the city, Quat Quatta also pairs easily with city getting-ready spots and accommodation, which keeps the logistics of your morning simple.
