Your wedding film takes weeks. That is right, and it should. The cinematic version of your day is a craft and craft cannot be rushed.
But there is a second thing a film can do, and almost nobody offers it. It can play tonight.
A same day edit is a short film of your wedding, shot in the morning and afternoon, cut while your reception is happening, and put on a screen before the night ends. Your guests sit down after dinner and watch the day they were just part of. The getting ready they never saw. The ceremony from the front. The first look, the tears, the drive between venues.
It is the single most emotional five minutes of a wedding I have ever been part of, and I have been part of a lot of them.
What actually happens in the room
The lights come down. The screen comes up. And eighty people who were at your wedding watch your wedding, together, while they are still at it.
People cry who did not cry at the ceremony. Your nan sees the getting ready for the first time. The friends who were running late see what they missed. And you get to watch your own morning back through the faces of everyone you love, in real time, instead of alone on a laptop three weeks later.
Then the dance floor opens and the energy is already at the roof, because you have just reminded every person in the room exactly why they came.
Why almost nobody offers this
Because it is genuinely hard.
A same day edit means shooting your morning and ceremony, then leaving your reception early, sitting in a back room or a car, and editing a finished film in three or four hours under real pressure while the party carries on without me. There is no second take. It plays tonight or it does not play.
Most videographers will not do it, and the ones who do charge for it, because it is a second full working shift stacked onto an already long day. I offer it because the reaction in that room is worth the hard afternoon, every time.

How the timeline works
This needs a little planning, and I will walk you through all of it.
The short version: your ceremony and first look need to happen with enough evening left for me to cut. An afternoon ceremony is ideal. A sunset ceremony can still work but the edit plays later in the night. I will look at your run sheet and tell you honestly what is possible, and where to nudge a start time by fifteen minutes to make the whole thing sing.
Your venue needs a screen or a wall and a way to play sound. Most Melbourne reception venues have this or can hire it. I coordinate the technical side directly with them so you never think about an HDMI cable.
Who this is for
Couples who want their wedding to have a moment nobody sees coming.
It works best at receptions with a real sit-down section, where there is a natural point in the night to dim the lights and put something on a screen. Warehouse spaces, winery pavilions, reception halls, anywhere with a wall and a room that will hold still for five minutes.
If your night is a loose, roaming party with no sit-down beat, the same day edit is harder to land, and I will tell you that rather than sell you something that will not work in your room.
Same day edit and your wedding film
This does not replace your wedding film. It is a different thing entirely.
The same day edit is fast, emotional, and it plays tonight. It is cut from the footage I have by early evening, so it covers your morning through to your ceremony.
Your full wedding film comes later, built properly over weeks, covering the whole day including the reception the same day edit could not include because the reception had not happened yet.
Most couples who take the same day edit are couples who already know they want the full film. This is the electric first taste, played to a room full of the people who were there.
Frequently asked questions
Does this replace our full wedding film?
No. It is a short film that plays on the night, cut from your morning and ceremony. Your full cinematic film is made later, over weeks, and covers the entire day. They are two different products doing two different jobs.
How long is it?
Roughly three to five minutes. Long enough to move the room, short enough to hold it.
When in the night does it play?
Usually after dinner and before the dance floor opens, so it lifts the energy going into the party. I will find the right beat with your run sheet.
What if our ceremony is late in the day?
Then the edit plays later in the night, or in some cases it is tight. Tell me your ceremony time when you enquire and I will tell you honestly whether the room will still be seated when it is ready.
Do we need to hire a screen?
Most venues have one or can arrange it. I coordinate the screen, projector and sound directly with your venue so it is not another thing on your list.
Can we share it that night?
Yes. You get a digital copy the same night, ready to post while everyone is still talking about the wedding.
Is it only for combined photo and video couples?
