Your Engagement Shoot: Why, Where and What to Wear in Melbourne

An engagement shoot is one of the most underrated parts of getting married. It is a relaxed hour together, beautiful photographs of this season of your life, and a chance to feel at home in front of the camera before the big day. Here is how to make the most of it.

Why it is worth it. Most couples feel a little awkward in front of a lens at first, and that is completely normal. An engagement shoot lets us get that out of the way early, so by your wedding day, being photographed feels natural. It is also a lovely excuse to slow down together during a busy planning season.

Where to shoot. Melbourne is full of options. A leafy garden for something soft and romantic, the city laneways for something a little editorial, a beach at sunset, or simply a place that means something to you, the cafe where you met, the park where you got engaged. The most personal locations always make the best images.

What to wear. Choose two outfits if you can, one dressed up and one relaxed. Stick to colours and textures that feel like you, and avoid large logos or busy patterns that date quickly. Most of all, wear something you feel wonderful in. It shows.

When to do it. Golden hour, the hour before sunset, gives the softest and most flattering light. Booking your shoot a few months before the wedding is ideal, leaving time to use the images for your save the dates or website.

The relaxed approach. My engagement shoots are unhurried and easy. We wander, we talk, and I quietly capture the in-between moments. You will be surprised how quickly it stops feeling like a photoshoot and starts feeling like a date.

Engagement shoots start at $595 and are a beautiful way to begin. Get in touch to book yours.
